Acupuncture is the stimulation of specific acupuncture points along the skin of the body using thin needles or the application laser light.  Traditional acupuncture involves needle insertion, moxibustion, and cupping therapy.  It is a form of alternative medicine and a key component of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).  According to TCM, stimulating specific acupuncture points corrects imbalances in the flow of qi through channels known as meridians.  Acupuncture aims to treat a range of conditions, though is most commonly used for pain relief.

Acupuncture is used at our clinic as an adjunct therapy method in treating painful conditions, especially those that incapacitate a patient to such extent that physical therapy and manual therapy cannot be used.  We also use needling in difficult or therapy-resistant conditions such as frozen shoulder or sciatica.  The decision to use acupuncture is made on case by case basis and depends on the ailment difficulty and best medical practice.
